Treatment of osteosarcoma at first recurrence after contemporary therapy

Aim: To determine the outcome for patients with recurrent OS who were treated at MSKCC at the time of first recurrence. Conclusions: At first recurrence, 22 of 31 patients achieved a CR2 with aggressive surgery and chemotherapy. The majority of these patients subsequently developed a disease recurrence. Patients appeared to…

Tumour regression & tissue repair when ZOL is combined with IFO in rat osteosarcoma

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of the combination of zoledronic acid (ZOL) with ifosfamide (IFO) on local tumor growth, histologic response, and animal survival using a rat-transplantable model of osteosarcoma. Conclusions: This is the first report of the anti-bone resorption and antitumoral activities of zoledronic acid in a rat model…

A Phase I/II Study of PBPC Mobilisation with VTP195183 Plus G-CSF Compared to Mobilisation with G-CSF Alone

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) are used to support the administration of high dose chemotherapy for a range of human cancers. For a safe HSC transplantation, a minimum of 5 million HSC per kilogram are required. HSC are collected from the bone marrow by using drugs such as G-CSF (filgrastim) which…

A Multicenter, Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study of the Safety, Efficacy, and Pharmacokinetics of the Human Anti-TNF Monoclonal Antibody Adalimumab in Children With Polyarticular Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis

This is a multicenter, Phase III randomized, placebo-controlled study in which polyarticular JRA subjects who are either MTX treated or non-MTX treated will initially receive Adalimumab by subcutaneous injection every other week for a four-month open-label lead-in period. Subjects who respond to the open-label therapy will then be rolled over…

Autologous Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplantation in Patients With Life Threatening Autoimmune Diseases

OBJECTIVES: I. Determine whether there is prompt engraftment after autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation using filgrastim (G-CSF) mobilization in patients with life threatening autoimmune diseases. II. Determine the kinetics of T- and B-cell immune reconstitution after a combination of timed plasmapheresis, high dose cyclophosphamide and total lymphoid irradiation, and…

Ibandronic Acid versus Zoledronic Acid in Cancer Patients with Skeletal Metastases Experiencing Moderate to Severe Pain

The purpose of the study is to investigate a new therapy for treating bone pain that results from cancer that has spread to the bones. The study compares treatment with ibandronic acid against treatment with another drug, zoledronic acid (a drug similar to ibandronic acid) to determine which drug is…

Study Compares Treatments for Women with Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

Once-weekly alendronate 70 mg and once-weekly risedronate 35 mg are indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. These two agents were compared in a 12-month head-to-head trial. Greater gains in BMD and greater reductions in markers of bone turnover were seen with alendronate compared with risedronate with similar tolerability.

An investigation into the short term effect of APOMINE in patients with Osteoporosis or Low Bone Mass

Osteoporosis affects millions of postmenopausal women in the USA. The current approved treatments are all drugs that prevent bone loss and possibly result in small gains in bone mass. Another possible treatment consists of drugs that increase bone formation. There are currently two drugs that stimulate bone formation, sodium fluoride…

New Oral Anticoagulant Therapy for the Prevention of Blood Clots Following Hip or Knee Replacement Surgery

LY517717 (a capsule given by mouth) is a blood thinner that may prevent blood clots from forming in the legs and may prevent those blood clots from traveling to the lungs. Leg and lung blood clots occur commonly after patients have surgery to replace a hip or knee joint. These…
