Hydrocephalus is a serious condition characterised by the accumulation of fluid from the spinal cord in regions of the brain. In adults, the condition causes neurological problems. In babies, fluid accumulation in the brain can cause the head to grow unusually quickly. The condition may also result in bulging fontanelles, or a bulging area at the soft spot at the top of the infant’s head.
