Ureaplasma urealyticum is a bacteria belonging to the Mycoplasma genus. These are the smallest of all free-living bacteria and several types cause infection in humans.
U. urealyticum is commonly found on the genitals of sexually active humans. In many cases it has no adverse affects, but in other cases is associated with infectious diseases, including urethritis in men and pelvic inflammatory disease in women.
