Mycoplasma genitalium is a bacteria belonging to the Mycoplasma genus. These are the smallest of all free-living bacteria, and several types cause infection in humans. M. genitalium is sexually transmitted and most commonly causes a condition called urethritis (inflammation of the urethra). It also causes cervical infection and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women.
