Hyperlipoproteinaemia type II is characterised by elevated levels of LDL cholesterol in the blood. Type IIa is also known as familial hypercholesterolaemia.
Type IIb has elevated levels of triglycerides in addition to elevated LDL cholesterol levels, and is also known as combined hyperlipoproteinaemia.
