The tunica vaginalis is the outer layer of the tunica (covering) of the testes. It has two layers which are separated from each other by a layer of fluid. The inner layer, called the visceral layer covers the tunica albuginea. The outer or parietal layer lines the inside of the scrotum. The tunica vaginalis helps to reduce friction between the testes and scrotum.
