Triptans are a class of medicines used in the treatment and prevention of migraine (particularly menstrual migraine) and cluster headaches. They are typically reserved for individuals who fail to achieve headache relief using simple pain killers such as aspirin and paracetamol. The mechanism by which they work to prevent migraine is not well understood.
