Primary dystonia is a subtype of dystonia. Primary dystonia is inherited and more commonly onsets during childhood. There is no neurodegenerative disease associated with primary dystonia, or any other neurological symptoms besides those associated with the disorder itself. Primary dystonia is most commonly characterised by muscle twisting and repetitive movements as a result of involuntary muscle contractions.
