Plantar hyperhidrosis, also known as pedal hyperhidrosis, is a type of focal hyperhidrosis characterised by excessive sweating affecting the feet. Unlike normal sweating which occurs in response to heat stimuli as an attempt to maintain body temperature, the excessive perspiration that characterises hyperhidrosis occurs as a non-thermoregulatory response. Amongst all individuals who experience focal hyperhidrosis, the feet are affected in 29%.
