Pervasive developmental disorder- not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS), is no longer diagnosed. Since 2013 it has been classified as autism spectrum disorder. However people who were diagnosed before 2013 may still refer to their condition as PDD-NOS. Children with PDD-NOS have some, but not all of the symptoms which were required to diagnose Asperger’s syndrome and generalised autism (both of which are now also classified as autism spectrum disorder). Although they have some difficulty interacting, they have better social skills compared to children with Asperger’s and generalised autism. They are less rigid in their behaviours, although they may still be repetitive or ritualistic.
