Paragangliomas are a type of usually benign tumours which grow from paraganglionic tissues in the neurological system. Paraganglionic tissue is found in some blood vessels and nerves as well as near the adrenal gland. Paragangliomas can be further categorised according to whether they grow in the adrenal gland, in which case they are called phaeochromocytomas, or the blood vessels and nerves, in which case they are referred to as glomus tumours or chemodectomas.
