Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is a potentially fatal condition that affects women and most commonly arises after artificial stimulation of the ovaries to develop oocytes (eggs), as in assisted reproduction.  The ovaries retain excess fluid, which may leak to other organs in the body.

Common symptoms of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome include rapid weight gain, severe abdominal pain and difficulty urinating.
