Mezavant (mesalazine) is a medicine used to treat mild to moderate active ulcerative colitis, a disease in which the lining of the colon and rectum becomes red and swollen, ulcers develop, and a person experiences stomach cramps and passes bloody stools. Mezavant can be taken either to reduce symptoms when a person has a flare up of ulcerative colitis, or to prevent future flare ups.
