Listeriosis is an infectious disease caused by the food borne bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. Symptoms of the disease include upper respiratory tract symptoms and septiceamia. Listeriosis is of particular concern during pregnancy as it can cause miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth and septicaemia (whole body infection) and pneumonia in newborn babies.
