Curing or drying tobacco is the first step in processing the tobacco necessary to prepare the tobacco for consumption. There are several ways tobacco can be cured including a process called flue-curing. Flue-cured tobacco is tobacco leaves which are hung to dry in hot shelters (like a furnace) for around a week. This curing technique leaves many sugars in the plant and therefore produces a very sweet tobacco. This is how Virginian tobacco is cured.
