Familiar hemiplegic migraine is a rare type of migraine with aura which is an inherited or genetic condition. This type of migraine causes very severe neurological symptoms which precede the migraine headache typically by 10-90 minutes. The neurological disturbances associated with familiar hemiplegic migraine include temporary unilateral paralysis (unable to move one side of the body), visual disturbances and vertigo (sensation of the room spinning).
