If a condition is unilateral it only occurs on one side of the midline of the body. The midline of the body can be imagined as a straight line that runs from the centre of your head vertically down the body, splitting it in half with each half a mirror image of the other. The physical effects of a stroke are sometimes unilateral in that only one side of the body is impaired after the stroke.
