Deep sleep and delta sleep are terms used to describe stage 3 and 4 of non-REM sleep. During deep sleep it is more difficult to be aroused from sleep. These stages are also referred to as delta sleep due to the presence of delta brain waves, the slowest brain waves with the highest amplitude.
