About Continence Foundation of Australia

The Continence Foundation of Australia is the peak national body representing the interests of nearly one in four Australians affected by incontinence, their carers, families and clinicians. The Foundation, established in 1989, is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life of all Australians affected by incontinence.


Vision and Mission

The mission of the Continence Foundation is to represent the interests of Australians affected by incontinence and act as advocate for their interests by

  • improving access to and availability of services
  • providing information and advice
  • meeting the needs of stakeholders, and
  • promoting education, support and research.


Programs and Services

National Continence Helpline 1800 33 00 66: Staffed by continence nurse advisors, the freecall helpline provides information, education and advice to callers suffering from or caring for someone with incontinence.

Education: National health professional forums, an annual National Conference on Incontinence,  the peer-reviewed journal Australian and New Zealand Continence Journal,  a National Continence Scholarship Program,  and the nationally accredited Short Course, Certificate II and Graduate Certificate.

Australian Continence Exchange; The Australian Continence Exchange (ACE) at www.continencexchange.org.au is a website designed to assist health professionals in their approach to continence health management support.

Awareness-raising: Consumer forums and community evenings, Continence Awareness Week, consumer magazine Bridge, television commercials and regular articles in a range of news media outlets. The Healthy Bladder and Bowel Habits in Schools project , Pelvic Floor First program, Carer of the Year award and World Continence Week also highlight the issue of incontinence.

Advocacy: The Continence Foundation advocates for equitable subsidy schemes, workforce development, access to pharmaceuticals, and Continence Resource Centres in each state and territory.
