Transient microorganisms are bacteria, viruses, fungi and other microscopic organisms that contaminate the hands when they are dirty. Unlike resident microorganisms which protect the skin of the hands, transient microorganisms may cause infection if they are not washed off the hands with soap and water or killed with alcohol-based hand sanitising gel.
