Synaptic connectivity can be thought of as the structural basis of learning and memory. Synapses are the connections between one brain cell and another. In order for information to pass through the brain these connections need to be made. Synaptic connections are formed throughout life but the process is especially active during neurodevelopment which occurs from infancy through childhood. This is when synaptic connectivity is at its peak and the most synaptic connections are being made as the individual is learning.
