High acuity vision, sometimes also called central vision, is the clear sharp vision needed for reading, driving a car and recognising features such as those that help you to recognise a person’s face. An area of the eye called the macula is responsible for this high acuity vision. It is most commonly lost due to a condition called macular degeneration.
