Haemolytic anaemia is a variety of anaemia (a condition characterised by lack of red blood cells) which results from the premature death of these red blood cells. Because the cells die more quickly than they should, bone marrow cannot produce enough new red blood cells to ensure their sufficient concentration in the blood. Haemolytic anaemia can be caused by hereditary conditions or environmental factors such as a deficiency of folate in the diet.
