Dental fillings are used when dentists need to remove tooth decay from teeth. The decay is removed, the tooth is prepared, and a filling (usually either amalgam or composite resin) is placed into the tooth to replace the missing material.
Fillings can be used to treat dentine hypersensitivity by covering the area of exposed dentine. This should be the very last resort.
