Articular hyper-mobility refers to the ability to move the joints beyond their normal range of movement. People with articular hyper-mobility are often said to be double jointed. Hyper-mobility may occur in one or just a few joints, or be generalised, that is occur in all the joints.
Hyper-mobility occurs because tissues that connect the person’s joints are looser than normal. The condition is usually not harmful. However in children it might be a sign of a more serious condition affecting the connective tissues.
